NAPLES, Fla. — Entrepreneur and business strategist Gonzalo Torres-Giusti says sustainable business growth isn't built through shortcuts or viral moments. Instead, it comes from understanding how businesses operate, implementing scalable systems and committing to long-term marketing strategies that create lasting brand awareness.
During a recent appearance on The Real Build podcast hosted by Bill Reiman, Torres-Giusti shared insights from his entrepreneurial journey, discussing business strategy, marketing, artificial intelligence, automation and why many companies fail to maximize their marketing investments.
Torres-Giusti, founder of RC Marketing Group, GT Mediex Design, Naples 2Night Digital Magazine, Biz Mindz Podcast and parent company serroTx Media, said his entrepreneurial mindset was shaped at an early age.
Growing up in Peru, he watched his father build and operate multiple businesses, exposing him to both the rewards and challenges of entrepreneurship. After immigrating to the United States, his family launched a business in the food industry, where Torres-Giusti spent nearly a decade learning every aspect of operations before returning to his original passion—business strategy, marketing and systems.
"I've always believed that before you market a business, you have to understand the business," Torres-Giusti said during the interview. "If you don't know where a company is today, it's impossible to recommend the right strategy."
That philosophy has become the foundation of his companies' consulting-first approach.
Rather than immediately recommending advertising campaigns, Torres-Giusti explained that his team begins by evaluating each company's current position, financial resources, operational systems and long-term objectives before designing a customized marketing roadmap.
He compares the process to a physician diagnosing a patient before prescribing treatment.
"Every business is different," he said. "You can't recommend the same solution for everyone."
Marketing as an Investment
One of the interview's central themes focused on how business owners often misunderstand marketing.
According to Torres-Giusti, many companies expect immediate returns from advertising and become discouraged when results do not appear within weeks or months.
Instead, he encourages entrepreneurs to think long-term.
He recommends businesses invest approximately 10% of their revenue into marketing whenever possible, while recognizing that smaller companies may initially need to handle portions of their marketing internally until they are ready to scale.
"If you're constantly changing agencies every few months, you'll never give marketing enough time to work," Torres-Giusti said. "Marketing compounds over time."
Throughout the discussion, he emphasized that consistency often becomes a company's greatest competitive advantage.
Businesses that continuously publish content, educate customers and stay visible in their communities naturally build credibility over time—even before generating measurable sales.
Building Recognition Before Revenue
Torres-Giusti also challenged the common belief that marketing success should only be measured through immediate revenue.
He explained that impressions, reach and brand awareness all contribute to future business growth.
Many business owners, he said, underestimate the impact of thousands of people repeatedly seeing their brand online.
"If 10,000 people see your business, that's 10,000 people becoming familiar with your brand," he said. "That awareness has value long before someone becomes a customer."
Podcast host Bill Reiman agreed, sharing examples of clients who had quietly followed his content for years before reaching out to hire his company.
Both entrepreneurs described marketing as an investment that continues working long after content is published.
Growing Naples 2Night Through Positive Community News
The conversation also explored the evolution of Naples 2Night Digital Magazine, the Southwest Florida publication Torres-Giusti helped transform from a local entertainment page into one of the region's largest digital community platforms.
Originally launched in 2009 as "Naples at Night," the brand evolved into a community-driven publication focused on highlighting local businesses, restaurants, events and positive news throughout Southwest Florida.
Unlike many digital media outlets that rely on negative headlines for engagement, Torres-Giusti said Naples 2Night intentionally takes a different approach.
"We don't want to highlight businesses closing," he said. "We want to highlight businesses opening."
Today, Naples 2Night serves as both a digital publication and community-building platform, connecting local businesses with residents while hosting networking events designed to strengthen Southwest Florida's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
AI Is Changing Business Operations
Artificial intelligence also emerged as a major topic during the interview.
Rather than viewing AI as a replacement for employees, Torres-Giusti described it as one of the most valuable tools available for improving operational efficiency.
His companies continuously evaluate internal processes to determine where automation can eliminate repetitive tasks, allowing employees to spend more time on creative thinking, strategy and client relationships.
"If you only have 24 hours in a day, automation becomes essential," he said. "AI allows businesses to remove unnecessary manual work so teams can focus on higher-value activities."
He believes businesses that successfully combine automation with human expertise will gain a significant competitive advantage over the coming years.
Experience Still Matters
While acknowledging the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and digital tools, Torres-Giusti cautioned entrepreneurs against relying solely on technology.
He argued that real-world experience remains one of the most valuable assets any business owner can possess.
Technology may accelerate processes, he said, but it cannot replace the judgment developed through years of building companies, solving problems and learning from failure.
As digital marketing continues evolving, Torres-Giusti believes companies that combine strategic thinking, operational systems and authentic relationships will continue outperforming competitors focused only on short-term tactics.
The episode concluded with both Reiman and Torres-Giusti agreeing that the future of business belongs to organizations willing to embrace innovation while remaining committed to consistency, credibility and long-term value creation.
